The Chicago Blackhawks have sent forward Teuvo Teravainen back to the AHL, the team announced on Thursday.

Teravainen, the Blackhawks first-round draft pick in 2012, was recalled by the team from the Rockford IceHogs on Jan. 2. In reassigning the 20-year-old back to Rockford, the team called up forward Ryan Hartman and defenseman Kyle Cumiskey.

Teravainen was a healthy scratch for Wednesday's game against the Canucks. On Monday, he was asked about the possibility of being sent back to Rockford.

"I can't say [I'd be] disappointed," he said. "There's some situations where I can do nothing about, so I play my best and that's all."

In his time with Chicago this season, Teravainen had two goals and two assists in 15 games. He tallied six goals, 17 assists and 92 shots on goal in 33 games with Rockford before being recalled. In December, he scored three goals and contributed seven assists in 13 AHL games, including one goal and two assists in his first three-point game against the Chicago Wolves on Dec. 10.

Last season, Teravainen played three games for the Blackhawks, recording four shots on goal and having an even plus-minus rating.

The Blackhawks (33-18-4) host the New Jersey Devils on Friday.
