New Kessel Klassic: Twitter hails Phil's first Penguins photo

Twitter reacted with glee to Phil Kessel’s first photo as a Pittsburgh Penguin, which ranks among his most memorable shots.

It was picture day for new Penguins forward Phil Kessel on Monday.

To no one’s surprise, it yielded another unforgettable photo.

That may be because it’s jarring to see Kessel, a visually compelling, five-time 30 goal scorer who was acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Maple Leafs on July 1, wearing Pittsburgh’s black and gold instead of the blue and white he wore for five seasons in Toronto. Or it may be because, like Earl J. Hickey, he just can’t seem to get along with the camera.

The Penguins found a way to be supportive, tweeting the image of Kessel wearing an awkward semi-smile and wrinkled khaki shorts with the note, “We like your style, Phil.” Twitter though wasn’t buying it and quickly offered a few humorous takes on this latest photographic Kessel kerfuffle.

Bless you, Pete.
