Watch: Sabres rookie Jack Eichel scores against Senators in NHL debut
Buffalo Sabres rookie Jack Eichel didn't have to wait very long into his NHL career to see his name in the scorers column for the first time.
With Buffalo down 2–0 in the third period of its season-opening game against the Ottawa Senators, Eichel, the No. 2 pick in the 2015 draft, notched a power play goal with a perfectly placed wrist shot over the left shoulder of goaltender Craig Anderson.
Eichel is one of two rookies making their highly anticipated NHL debuts Thursday, along with Edmonton Oilers center and No. 1 pick Connor McDavid.
Eichel led the NCAA in scoring at Boston University last season, producing 26 goals, 45 assists and 71 points in 40 games. The 18-year-old became just the second freshman to win the Hobey Baker Award, given to the top collegiate player, after leading the Terriers to an appearance in the national championship game.
