Ex-NHLer and TSN analyst Aaron Ward arrested for domestic assault

Ex-Hurricanes defenseman Aaron Ward was arrested on Friday in North Carolina and charged with assault on a female, according to a report from WNCN.

Former Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Aaron Ward was arrested on Friday in Cary, N.C., and charged with assault on a female, according to a report from WNCN.

Ward, who currently works as an analyst for TSN in Canada, was also charged with interfering with emergency communication.

Assault on a female by a male over the age of 18 is considered a Class A1 misdemeanor in the state and can result in a sentence of up to 60 days in jail for someone with no prior convictions. Female-on-male, male-on-male, and female-on-female assaults are generally Class 2 misdemeanors and lead to lesser sentences.

Ward was selected with the fifth pick in the 1991 draft by the Winnipeg Jets and went on to play 839 NHL games. He won the Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes in 2006. He also played for the Red Wings, Rangers, Bruins and Ducks.

TSN has not yet commented on the arrest.
