Wild sign Jared Spurgeon to four-year contract extension

The Wild re-signed defenseman Jared Spurgeon to a four-year contract extension on Monday.

The Minnesota Wild have signed defenseman Jared Spurgeon to a four-year contract extension, the team announced Monday.

The 26-year-old’s deal is worth $20.75 million.

In 31 games this season, Spurgeon has recorded four goals and 12 assists while leading the team with 65 blocked shots. Last season, he posted career bests with nine goals, 128 shots and 124 blocked shots. 

Spurgeon, who is in the midst of his sixth season with the Wild, was selected by the New York Islanders with the No. 156 pick in the 2008 NHL entry draft.

In his NHL career, Spurgeon has recorded 30 goals and 87 assists for Minnesota.
