When Mike Gartner set the record in the NHL’s All-Star Skills Competition for the fastest skater in 1996, Dylan Larkin wasn’t even born yet. But on Saturday night the 19-year old rookie broke Gartner’s record of 13.386 seconds for the fastest lap around the rink with a time of 13.172 seconds.

Larkin looked like he lost a step as he rounded the net but made up for it with impressive, giant strides on the final half.

ROUNDTABLE: What we’re excited for as All-Star Weekend kicks off

It’s been an incredible year for Larkin so far. He currently sits third in rookie scoring with 33 points through 48 games, and he’s also tied for first in the league in plus/minus (+24) and has five game-winning goals to boot. You can’t help but wonder if after setting a record Saturday night, is the Calder Trophy is next.
