In front of 4,000 fans, the New Jersey Devils honored legendary goalie Martin Brodeur with a statue called “The Salute.”

In front of 4,000 fans, the New Jersey Devils honored legendary goalie Martin Brodeur with a statue called “The Salute.” The Devils will retire Brodeur’s No. 30 jersey before Tuesday evening’s game against the Edmonton Oilers. Joined by his sons Anthony, Jeremy and Maxime, Brodeur smiled as the 900-pound bronze statue was revealed.

“The Salute” was created by famed artist and lifelong Devils fan Jon Krawczyk and captures Brodeur’s classic, stick raised in the air pose. It will be displayed outside the Prudential Center.

Brodeur retired from the NHL in January 2015 and his 691 career wins are the most by a goalie in the league’s history. He played for the Devils from 1991 to 2013 before making seven appearances for the St. Louis Blues in 2014–15.
