The Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to trade center Eric Staal to the New York Rangers.
The Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to trade center Eric Staal to the New York Rangers.
Carolina will receive two second-round picks and 19-year-old prospect Aleksi Saarela in return for Staal.
The Hurricanes will also be retaining 50% of Staal’s contract.
Staal, 31, has played with the Hurricanes since the 2003–2004 season. He was named captain prior to the 2010 season.

He will be leaving a team that also has brother Jordan Staal on its roster, but joins brother Marc Staal in New York.
Staal waived his no-trade clause to allow the deal to be completed.
