Watch: Islanders coach Jack Capuano takes puck to face
Islanders head coach Jack Capuano found himself with a face full of puck after a quick offensive move by Tampa Bay Lightning’s center Alex Killorn went wrong during Wednesday’s Game 1 in Florida.
In an attempt to get around New York Islanders’ forward Ryan Strome, Killorn tried to pass the puck up ice, but instead the puck ricocheted off Strome’s shin pad and hit the Islander’s coach in the face. The injured coach was taken to the locker room with a towel covering his face as the Amalie Arena played Queen’s “We Will Rock You” queued up to “You Got Blood on your Face.”
Assistant coach Doug Weight took over head coaching duties until Capuano returned with just over two minutes left in the game.
Capuano has been the Islanders head coach since 2010 and led the team to its first playoff series win since 1993 when New York advanced to the second round.
