The Ottawa Senators also showed interest in hiring the 61-year-old coach who was fired by the Anaheim Ducks on April 29 after the team was eliminated in the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Nashville Predators.

In five seasons as Ducks coach, Boudreau led the team to a 208-104-40 record with four consecutive Pacific Division titles, including a first-place record of 46–25-11 this season. Prior to joining Anaheim, Boudreau coached the Washington Capitals from 2007-12.
