The NHL is set to introduce jersey advertisements, reports Ben Fischer of the SportsBusiness Journal.
The league has sold sponsorships that will appear on the shoulders of the World Cup of Hockey jerseys, but a decision has not been made regarding advertisements on team jerseys.
NHL executive vice president and chief marketing officer Brian Jennings said during a press conference Wednesday that the league will monitor fan response to the advertisements.
Adidas will become the NHL’s official jersey supplier beginning in the 2016–17 season, which could lead to advertisements on team jerseys.
The World Cup of Hockey begins Sept. 17.
