Subban, Hall trades cause rending of garments in Montreal, Edmonton

The P.K. Subban and Taylor Hall trades inspired funny, anguished reactions by fans on Twitter.

A day may have passed, but the buzz hasn't subsided.

The hockey world is still coming to grips with the trades that shook four franchises to their foundations on Wednesday. The deal that saw the Montreal Canadiens send P.K Subban to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Shea Weber is being hailed as the worst in franchise history. The reactions in Edmonton to the trade that sent Taylor Hall to the New Jersey Devils for Adam Larsson are only slightly less hyperbolic.

Fortunately, some fans were capable of maintaining their sense of humor in the face of grave disappointment, while others respectfully restrained their urge to celebrate.

In the last 5 seasons of NHL play, Adam Larsson was the 106th defenceman in points. Nikita Nikitin was 108th. So clearly an upgrade for Oil.

You can bet that fans in Montreal are circling March 2 on their 2017 calendars, as that's the night Subban will return wearing a Predators sweater. Likewise, Taylor Hall visits Edmonton as a Devil for the first time on January 12.
