Las Vegas NHL team reveals Golden Knights name, logo
The new NHL franchise in Las Vegas will be named the Golden Knights, the franchise announced Tuesday.
The team revealed their logo and team colors during a ceremony outside T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas Strip.
The Golden Knights are the first expansion team since the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Minnesota Wild were added to the NHL in 2000. They will be the eighth team in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference and will start playing next season.
The league made provisions for the upcoming expansion draft to help make the team as competitive as possible.
During the Blue Jackets' first season they won 28 games and finished last in the Central Division, and the Wild posted 25 victories in the Northwest Division.
The team must select one player from each existing club, which consists of 14 forwards, nine defensemen and three goaltenders. At least 20 of those players must be under contract for the 2017–18 season.
