Rangers’ K’Andre Miller Apologizes for Spitting on Kings’ Drew Doughty

The New York defenseman maintains it was an accident.

Rangers defenseman K’Andre Miller apologized Monday on Twitter after he was ejected on Sunday for spitting on Kings defenseman Drew Doughty. In the apology, he maintains it was an accident.

“I wanted to take a moment to address what occurred in last night’s game,” Miller said on Twitter. “I have all the respect in the world for Drew Doughty and what happened was completely accidental. I would never intend to do something like that on purpose, it goes against everything I am as a person and player. I felt awful about it and I am thankful Drew gave me the opportunity to apologize and explain myself in person after the game.”

In a replay of the incident, Miller can be seen spitting in Doughty’s face while the two were in close proximity. Miller received an automatic match penalty, which brings a game misconduct and a review from the league. He could face further discipline, including a possible suspension.

“Whether or not he meant to do that, I don’t know,” Doughty said, per USA Today Sports. “It was a pretty big loogie on my face, so I was pretty pissed.”
