Coyotes to Terminate Alex Galchenyuk’s Contract After Just 12 Days Due to Arrest
Recent Coyotes free agent signee Alex Galchenyuk's tenure with the club lasted only 12 days, as the team announced Thursday it placed the forward on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract.
The veteran forward’s one-year deal with the club will be terminated after a slew of charges stemming from a hit-and-run incident on July 9.
Per The Athletic’s Katie Strang, Galchenyuk was arrested on charges that include private property hit and run, disorderly conduct, failure to obey, resisting arrest and threatening or intimidating.
The Scottsdale Police Department reportedly said there were no injuries in the incident, and there was only property damage.
Since being drafted with the third pick in the 2012 draft by the Canadiens, Galchenyuk has bounced around the league spending time with the Coyotes, Penguins, Wild, Senators and Maple Leafs.
Last season, the 29-year-old center played 42 games with the Colorado Eagles of the AHL, notching 16 goals and 26 assists. After being called up to the Avalanche, he failed to register a point while appearing in 11 games. Overall, he has scored 146 goals while adding 208 assists (354 points) in 654 career games in the NHL.
If Galchenyuk clears waivers at noon on Friday, he will once again be free to sign with any club.
