Hockey Player Scores Stunning Goal With Unique Trick During All-Star Game
Matt Brown is having a heck of a first season in professional hockey.
The former UMass Lowell and Boston Univeristy winger signed with the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms (the top affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers) but has spent the majority of the season with the Reading Royals in the ECHL. He’s excelled there, posting 11 goals and 18 assists in 26 games, which earned him a spot on the All-Star team.
In Monday night’s All-Star Game, Brown pulled off an unbelievable move to score a goal. He found himself all alone on a breakaway and then bent down to scoop the puck off the ice with his stick and throw it past the goalkeeper.
The move is reminiscent of the “Michigan” play that numerous NHL players have scored with in recent year—with one key difference. The Michigan involves picking the puck up while positioned behind the goal and then sneaking it past the goalie from close range. Brown was still at the top of the crease when he released the puck, about six feet from the goal line.
Brown made the daring move look easy, but it’s probably too risky to deploy in a game that actually matters.
