The addition of Patrick Kane to this year's Detroit Red Wings in late November provided a big spark for the team, though they ultimately missed out on the playoffs in heartbreaking fashion on the last day of the regular season.

Kane is headed back to free agency following the conclusion of his one-year, $2.75 million deal with the Red Wings. Though the opportunity for him to return to Detroit is a possibility, he sent a message of gratitude to the fans on Wednesday.

"Thank you Red Wings, my teammates, coaches and all the fans of Hockey Town for welcoming me and my family with open arms this season. This past year gave us memories we’ll never forget. The work doesn’t stop. #LGRW," wrote Kane on X.

The former Chicago Blackhawks superstar started the season unsigned while recovering from hip resurfacing surgery he underwent during the offseason. Kane latched on with Detroit on Nov. 29 and ended up playing in 50 games for the team, registering 47 points, including 20 goals, and logging a plus-minus of -5.

The 2024–25 season will be Kane's 17th year in the NHL, but he showed in '23–'24 that he still has plenty left to offer in the offensive zone.
