The U.S. Olympic Committee drew the ire of fans and politicians when it was discovered that U.S. athletes would wear clothes manufactured in China to the opening ceremonies later this month. The outfits, designed by fashion icon Ralph Lauren, drew sharp criticism from both Republicans and Democrats in Washington. "I am so upset. I think the Olympic committee should be ashamed of themselves. I think they should be embarrassed. I think they should take all the uniforms, put them in a big pile and burn them and start all over again," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told reporters on Thursday. As the fall-out continues, SI takes a look back at nearly a century of Olympic fashion.
