Los Angeles 2024 Olympic bid reveals proposed venues
On Wednesday, Los Angeles 2024 Olympic organizers are set to present their latest revised draft for a U.S. bid for the 2024 Summer Games before City Council.
The 218-page document was shared by sports executive Casey Wasserman on Tuesday afternoon. Los Angeles will vote on Wednesday on the bid's approval.
Los Angeles would be the United States Olympic Committee's second attempt at a bid for the 2024 Summer Games, after Boston withdrew its bid from consideration on July 27.
USC is expected to spend $500 million on the creation of a “reimagined” LA Coliseum. In the document, an additional $100 million is budgeted toward putting a temporary or permanent roof on the new facility, which is likely to be financed by Los Angeles' new MLS team.
Los Angeles has an advantage in its proposed bid by already having stadiums and infrastructure from the 1984 Summer Olympics in place. Los Angeles also hosted the 1932 Olympics.
National Olympic Committees have until Sept. 15 to submit their candidate city selection to the International Olympic Committee. The field of candidate cities outside the United States includes Paris, Rome, Budapest and Hamburg, Germany.
