Twenty seconds into their match against Australia on Wednesday, Canada had a one-goal lead—as well as an Olympic record.
Janine Beckie scored the opening goal of the group stage game for the Canadian side a mere 20 seconds after a kickoff, a record for the fastest goal in an Olympic women's soccer match. The score gave Canada an early lead the team would carry into halftime.
