Japanese Virologist: Tokyo Olympics Probably Couldn't Be Held Now
A prominent doctor from Japan said that due to the coronavirus if the Olympics were scheduled for tomorrow, the Games would not take place.
If the Tokyo Olympics were held tomorrow, the Games probably couldn't go on, according to Japanese virologist, Dr. Hitoshi Oshitani.
"Right now there's no effective strategy" to have a safe Olympics, according to Dr. Oshitani. But by the end of July, things might be different.
Every day that passes, the virus seems to spread, causing Olympic qualifying events to be canceled or postponed. Dating back to 1896, the Olympics have only been canceled during wartime...they still went on during the boycotts of 1980 and 1984.
Test events are scheduled to be held in Japan next month. Dozens of sports events have been called off around Asia.
Whether the Games go on is anyone's guess...
