MotoGP News: Alex Rins To Be Back On His Yamaha M1 At Silverstone For MotoGP's 75th Anniversary
Alex Rins will return to MotoGP racing this weekend at Silverstone following a three-week recovery from a hand injury sustained at Assen. The race coincides with MotoGP's 75th anniversary celebrations at the British Grand Prix, where teams will showcase retro liveries on their bikes.
Rins underwent surgery for the fractures he sustained at the Dutch event but has utilized the summer break to regain his fitness for the second half of his debut season with Monster Yamaha. The Spaniard's iconic win of the 2019 British Grand Prix, where he overtook Marc Marquez on his Suzuki to win a race, brings back memories from this weekend at this iconic circuit.
Speaking of Silverstone, thousands of fans gathered in the pit lane on Thursday as 11 teams showcased special liveries to honor the rich heritage and history of MotoGP. This initiative, organized by series promoter Dorna, was a highlight of the event, celebrating the sport's unique legacy.
Speaking to the media after the recovery, Rins said:
“It's nice to be back again after the recovery period. I‘m feeling good. The three weeks off helped me to prepare for this weekend. I had time to pick up training again, so I arrive in the UK ready to ride the M1.
“I am looking forward to Silverstone. It's a track I really like, so I feel like it's a good place to make a comeback. It's also an important round for Monster Energy, and the 75th anniversary celebration adds extra festivity to the start of the second half of the season.”
Rins' teammate Fabio Quartararo also seems to favor Silverstone, given his spectacular British Grand Prix victory in 2021. Currently, Quartararo is 15th in the championship standings, with a best finish of 7th so far. Both riders, along with Remy Gardner—who filled in for Rins during his absence—will sport a special livery for Sunday's race, adding to the event's celebratory atmosphere.
Eager to kick off the second half of the season with 11 races remaining, Quartararo shared that he spent quality time with family and friends during the break, in addition to maintaining his training regimen. Now, he is "ready to go" racing. He said:
“After some relaxing and spending time with friends and family, I'm ready to start the second half of the season.
“We have 11 rounds still to go, and we will be working hard throughout these next few months to find the next step. So, I'm ready to go! I like Silverstone, and it's a big event for Monster Energy, and also for MotoGP.
“I think the fans will really enjoy the special 75th anniversary liveries.”
