The automotive world is set to witness the arrival of a new icon in rugged luxury as the Ineos Grenadier Detour makes its debut. This limited edition 4x4 SUV, the brainchild of Ineos' newly minted Arcane Works division, is not just a vehicle but a statement of bespoke engineering and exclusivity. With only 200 units set to grace the roads—and off-roads—the Grenadier Detour promises a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern automotive innovation, meticulously hand-finished in the UK.

The inception of Arcane Works allows the brand the option of providing customers with unparalleled customization options. This endeavor is about pushing the envelope on what 4x4s can be, allowing every detail to be tailored to the driver’s personal taste, whether for city cruising or trail-blazing.

Visually, the Grenadier Detour is a marvel. It offers four new shimmering paint colors—Magma Red, Whiteout Blue, Squall Green, and Storm Force Silver—all painstakingly polished by hand. For those desiring a more personal touch, Ineos accommodates custom colors matched to personal samples or existing vehicles. The exterior customization doesn’t end here; the Detour features 18-inch forged alloy wheels and a distinctive front grille designed specifically for this model, complemented by a contrast pack that color-coordinates the front and rear skid plates, roof rails, and a rear ladder.

Internally, the Grenadier Detour boasts a rich tapestry of fine materials. Seats can be draped in one of four types of luxurious, fine-grain leather sourced from Bridge of Weir in Scotland, while the headlining comes in two exquisite options of cashmere from Johnstons of Elgin. Further bespoke tailoring is evident in the badging by British jewelers Vaughtons, established in 1819, and custom leathers and fabrics enveloping key touchpoints. Even the door scuff plates receive a unique touch, laser-etched in aluminum to denote the SUV’s limited-edition status.

Performance is paramount, with engine options including a potent petrol or diesel BMW-sourced 3.0-litre straight-six engine. The petrol models get an additional boost from a customized exhaust system, specifically designed to heighten the auditory thrill of the driving experience.

The Grenadier Detour's pricing starts from £134,100—a premium justified by the bespoke features and luxurious materials that elevate it far above the standard Grenadier, priced at £76,140. The launch of this model signifies Ineos' aggressive positioning in the luxury SUV market, with Arcane Works planning more special edition models that promise to be just as exceptional.

The Ineos Grenadier Detour is slated for a grand unveiling at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it will be showcased alongside five prototype models, including a V8-powered Grenadier and a rally raid racer.

In the words of George Ratcliffe, Commercial Director of Ineos Automotive, via a press release:

"We chose the Arcane name for our new division because the limited-edition vehicles it creates will be so unique as to be rarely spotted in the wild. Working in small batches and hand finishing the cars means we can give a level of individuality not found in the 4x4 market. For our first launch, Grenadier Detour felt like a fitting name as the Grenadier is for people who enjoy driving, and sometimes it’s worth taking the longer route.”
