For the 2025 model year, Toyota is bringing back the revered Hakone special edition, an ode to the famed Hakone Turnpike in Japan, renowned for its dynamic driving roads. This model promises a suite of updates that enhance both its appearance and performance, setting a new benchmark for this affordable sports car segment.

Scheduled to arrive in dealerships during the fall, the 2025 Toyota GR86 Hakone special edition builds on the success of its predecessors but with notable advancements. The exterior of the Hakone edition is immediately distinguishable by its exclusive shade of green paint, recalling the lush landscapes of Hakone itself. Complementing this striking color are 18-inch bronze-colored wheels and a body-colored rear spoiler, accented by custom badging that confirms its exclusivity.

Inside, the cabin mixes luxury with sportiness—Ultrasuede and leather adorn the seats, and a shift knob with bronze accents enhances the tactile experience of driving. Under the hood, the Hakone edition doesn't disappoint. It features a 2.4-liter flat-4 engine that delivers 228 horsepower, paired seamlessly with a Torsen limited-slip differential that ensures power is efficiently transmitted to the rear wheels. Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission, with the 2025 model receiving updates like revised throttle mapping for easier manual downshifting, and enhanced torque control for a more responsive and linear throttle experience.

Standard on this model are Brembo brakes and Sachs dampers, with an optional Performance Package available to upgrade other GR86 grades similarly.
