Everyone in the tennis world knew this year was the swan song for Andy Murray. Unfortunately, his farewell tour keeps getting cut shorter and shorter due to injuries.

On Thursday morning, Murray announced that he had withdrawn from the Olympics in singles. However, he still plans to play doubles with Dan Evans at this time.

The 2024 Summer Olympics were originally planned to be Murray's final tennis tournament. Murray got bit by the injury bug in June when he went down with back pain at the Queen's Club Championships.

Murray quickly underwent back surgery for a spinal cyst and rushed back to play Wimbledon. However, he was unable to play singles (due to injury) and mixed doubles (due to Emma Raducanu's injuries) at Wimbledon.

The 37-year-old, who won gold medals at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, had previously announced he would retire following the tennis competition at Roland Garros in Paris.

Men's and women's tennis will begin play on Saturday with the draw set for Thursday. Tennis fans can follow Sports Illustrated's Serve on SI for all the most important news from the sport and beyond.
