Team USA Tennis Players Announced for 2024 Paris Olympics
Tennis fans have been inundated with news about the upcoming Grand Slams and Summer Olympics. Many players have opted to play in either Wimbledon or the Summer Games.
After weeks of rumors, we know the roster Team USA is sending to Paris. After missing the Tokyo Olympics due to COVID-19, Coco Gauff will lead the U.S. tennis team this year.
Gauff will be joined by Jessica Pegula, Danielle Collins, and Emma Navarro in women's singles. Meanwhile, Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, Chris Eubanks, and Marcos Giron will participate in men's singles.
The U.S. Olympic tennis team consists of four singles players each in the men's and women's draws, two men's doubles teams, two women's doubles teams, and one mixed doubles team.
The tennis tournaments of the 2024 Olympic Games will take place from July 27 to August 4 on the clay courts of Roland Garros. It is the first time Olympics tennis will be played on clay since 1992 in Barcelona.
That anomaly highlights a scheduling issue for many players who are having to bounce from clay (French Open) to grass (Wimbledon) back to clay (Olympics) within a two-month span.
While Team USA will feature six first-time Olympians, the Paris Games will also serve as the swan song for legends like Rafael Nadal. Tennis fans can follow Sports Illustrated's Serve on SI for all the most important news from the sport.
