Caitlin Clark Trusts Indiana Fever Teammates

Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

Caitlin Clark was asked if she needed to shoot more at the end of the Indiana Fever's loss to Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky. Clark mostly brushed the question aside, stating that she trusts her teammates and will give them the ball every time.

That philosophy had been working for Clark, given the Fever were rolling heading into the game and since to my eyes she is the best playmaker in the WNBA. Her vision is next level but in the contest against Chicago the recipients of her passes simply didn't turn them into assists enough.

Kelsey Mitchell, who has scored very well for Indiana, fumbled several beautiful dimes from Clark at the end of the first half. And Kristy Wallace, who has not produced enough in her starting spot, failed to convert on some looks from Caitlin late. CC still had 13 assists, but if a few more were added the result would likely not have been a loss.

The criticism of Caitlin is a familiar one and puts her in good company. Because another basketball superstar who has been questioned about shooting more goes by the name LeBron James. CC and LBJ are similar in their abilities to see the floor and orchestrate, and James has been asked by critics to look for his own shot rather making the right play many times throughout his career. Things worked out just fine for James as they will for Clark.

Every part of her game is trending up, including scoring efficiency. Once she gets some more reps in crunch time and her teammates knock down shots off her dishes, she could do to the WNBA what LeBron once did to the NBA. Because her playmaking ability is also special.
