Caitlin Clark Isn't Fever Guard Lexie Hull's Only Huge Fan
Indiana Fever guard Lexie Hull produced the best performance of her WNBA career on Sunday.
The 24-year-old Stanford University product finished the Fever's 92-75 win over the Seattle Storm with 22 points on 6 of 7 shooting from three-point range. Both her final scoring tally and three-point total were career-best numbers for her.
Hull, who was drafted with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2022 WNBA Draft, currently averages 4.5 points per game. And before Sunday's extraordinary sharpshooting display, she hadn't scored more than 12 points in a game all year.
This performance from Hull prompted Fever rookie sensation Caitlin Clark to hop on X after the game and make an exceedingly rare post on the platform, writing, "This is now a Lexie Hull fan account".
Clark's post has over 2.7 million views.
The Fever's social media team made an X post on Monday that profiled Hull after her career-best outing. While Hull's highlight footage from Sunday played, she spoke about the work she puts in daily, being a competitor on defense, and the support she feels from Fever fans.
This post prompted one specific fan to come out of the woodwork, competing with Clark about who the No. 1 member of the Lexie Hull fan club truly is.
Hull's mother, Jaime, replied to the Fever's X video and wrote, "Welp, she proved me right. She has always had it in her. She’s not always going to have games like this, but she will never not give !! It’s just who she is!!! #proudmom @lexiehulll @IndianaFever @StanfordWBB".
The Indiana Fever already look like one of the WNBA's most elite teams coming out of the month-long Paris Olympics break. Before Sunday's game, the common belief among fans was that Indiana's biggest deficiency was a "Three and D" type player who could be counted on to play great defense and drain the three-ball when they're open.
Then Hull proved that she could be that player for Indiana on Sunday.
Of course, it's much easier for a player to get hot for one game than to sustain that throughout a season. But if Hull can build on her career performance and find that shooting stroke consistently, Indiana will not be an easy out for any team in the WNBA playoffs later this year.
