Las Vegas Aces head coach Becky Hammon dubbed Indiana Fever star rookie Caitlin Clark a huge trash talker. Hammon was doing a joint press conference with Chicago Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon and the pair were admiring the WNBA rookie class.
“They’re really super skilled, they’re fun to watch, and they jaw at each other … it’s a different generation.”

Hammon and Weatherspoon, former teammates, were speaking before coaching against each other for the first time. Weatherspoon of course coaches Angel Reese, who has not been shy about declaring her status on the floor. But Hammon made it clear that Clark mixes it up verbally as much as any of her fellow rookies, including Angel.
"Nobody talks more crap than Caitlin too."
This was said in a good natured way as the championship winning coach was clear to compliment the current crop of first-year players. "They’re really super skilled, they’re fun to watch, and they jaw at each other."
Hammon did add that the new generation is a bit different than the one she and Weatherspoon came from, in the sense that the jawing she referenced happens in your face rather than in a more subtle manner.
There's good reason to tout the group featuring Clark and Reese, with interest being up across the board for the WNBA, and with the matchups between the two rivals drawing extra interest. The Aces coach also cited Las Vegas rookie Kate Martin as part of the history going back to the matchups between Iowa and LSU.
As far as any backlash to the smack talk goes, Hammon had a simple message for detractors as well.
"Let them go, they're big girls."
