Doris Burke Makes Caitlin Clark Joke During NBA Finals!

Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

Doris Burke made light of the biggest discussion in sports during the NBA Finals. The ESPN analyst cracked

“If that were Caitlin Clark it might spark a debate for a week”

on a play that saw PJ Washington of the Dallas Mavericks throw Boston Celtics star Kristaps Porzingis to the floor.

Burke seemingly was making fun of the over the top reactions to the flagrant foul Angel Reese committed against Clark during the Indiana Fever win over the Chicago Sky Sunday, as well as the general discourse around the WNBA rookie sensation this season.

The hit Reese made against Clark was not that far out of the norm from what has happened in many games before which is why the former LSU standout dubbed it a “basketball play”. She then proceeded to give the story a bit more life in saying

“I think we were playing really hard. I think we went up really strong a lot of times, and we didn’t get a lot of calls…I guess some people got a special whistle.”

To her credit Clark dismissed the whole ordeal stating

“It’s just part of basketball, it is what it is, she was trying to make a play on the ball.”

Of course that didn’t stop some pundits or others on social media from commenting about the foul, including former USC QB Matt Leinart who randomly had a very strong take.

Regardless of the reaction, the W continues to get mainstream attention from outlets like CNN and Fox, and more appropriately during the biggest NBA series of the year, thanks to the joke from Doris.
