Fever Rookie Caitlin Clark Is Generating Points at Historic Rate

Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark has had a double-double when it comes to points and assists in her last five games. But that doesn't even come close to capturing how important she has been as an offensive engine for the team. Because Clark has actually generated more points from either her own scoring or baskets off her passes than any player in WNBA history ever has over a five game span.

The 232 points she has created only adds to her lead in that category across the league. Which is one of the primary reasons it can be argued that Clark is not only clearly the best rookie in the W, but one of the top players overall.

Clark holds the all-time NCAA scoring record, but it is her assist totals that are on an unprecedented pace. She has more dimes than anyone currently and is not only going to obliterate the rookie record for assists in a season, but could very well set the all-time mark.

Ticha Penicheiro currently holds the top spot for a first-year player with the 225 she registered in 1998. While Alyssa Thomas has the most for a season with 316 in 2023. For context, Caitlin has 188 after the Fever win over the Phoenix Mercury, making the rookie record a foregone conclusion barring injury. If she averages 8 a game over the remainder of the year she will topple the overall mark. That is right around what her season average is now and well below what she has been doing recently.

As far as her own scoring goes, CC has increased her efficiency significantly of late. She currently ranks 15th in the league in points per game at just under 17. But she is averaging over 20 so far in July.

So when it comes to putting points on the board, Clark is not just performing well for a rookie, but producing at an Olympic level.
