Fever Rookie Caitlin Clark Makes WNBA Triple-Double History

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Caitlin Clark messed around and made history. The Indiana Fever rookie became the only first-year WNBA player ever to record a triple-double in a win against the New York Liberty. The crowd in Indianapolis acknowledged the accomplishment as soon as Caitlin snagged her 10th rebound.

Clark got off to a hot start with her trademark threes, many of the step back variety. But she impacted every aspect of the game through her rebounding and passing as well. Caitlin accomplished the feat in a matchup against Sabrina Ionescu, who had previously been the youngest player to reach the statistical accomplishment.

Caitlin is the all-time leading scorer in NCAA history but it is her assist totals that are likely to put her into rarified air in her rookie season. Clark is on pace to easily surpass the record for dimes in a player's opening campaign. She has recorded three-straight double-doubles when it comes to points and assists. Her total of four on the season put Clark ahead of Sue Bird for most by a rookie all-time.

The Rookie of the Year race continues to pick up steam in the WNBA as it seems every night either Clark or the Chicago Sky's Angel Reese is doing something unprecedented. In this instance it was Caitlin stuffing the stat sheet in every category. She finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists in the victory over a New York squad that had come into the game with the best record in the league.

Clark continues to meet the absurd expectations put upon her, with the triple-double being the latest piece of history made by the star out of Iowa who has boosted all of women's basketball.
