Indiana Fever Waive Celeste Taylor for Damiris Dantas

The Indiana Fever announced a roster move waiving guard Celeste Taylor while activating forward Damiris Dantas. Taylor was the 15th pick in the WNBA Draft and a contingent of fans had been making a case for her to get a chance in the rotation given Taylor's defensive reputation.

That obviously will not happen now and it appears Dantas will get a look sooner rather than later. Dantas had her contract suspended due to a knee injury but is back with the team following this move.

Dantas will likely be expected to provide a presence in the post and floor spacing as a big given she shot the deep ball very well while playing in Turkey and has been proficient from three in the WNBA as well. Fever General Manager Lin Dunn had previously cited her ability to play either the power forward or center position for the squad.

Damiris last saw action in the league with the Minnesota Lynx. Her best season came in 2020 when she averaged over 12 points per game on better than 40% shooting from three. Taylor meanwhile departs having seen only 16 minutes of total game time in her rookie season.

The Fever also got some more good news on the injury front when it comes to the return of Temi Fagbenle. Fagbenle is officially day-to-day heading into the game against the Seattle Storm after missing several weeks with a foot injury. Temi and Caitlin Clark had displayed a strong chemistry when sharing the floor together earlier this season.
