Iowa and Aces Show Megan Gustafson Love for Spain Olympics Performance

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Megan Gustafson has had quite the career journey. Gustafson helped establish the Iowa Hawkeyes as an NCAA women's basketball force before Caitlin Clark, winning Player of the Year in 2019. Since then she has bounced around the basketball world, having played for the Dallas Wings, Washington Mystics, Phoenix Mercury, and now the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA. While also spending time with Olympiacos Piraeus and the London Lions overseas. And it was her international performance in the Olympics for Spain that has put her back on the minds of many who she has encountered on her voyage.

Gustafson put up 29 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks for Spain, which was just enough for the team to pull off a thrilling 90-89 overtime win over China during the games in Paris. Megan's monster effort did not go unnoticed as she was congratulated by her current team, the Aces, and also by her college of Iowa.

New Hawkeyes coach Jan Jensen showered Gustafson with praise in posting, "People, just a reminder Megan Gustafson is truly 1 of the very best B1Gs in the world! What a testament to her hard working journey! She just helped lead Spain to a 1st round win over a very good China team in the Olympics! And, what a stat line! Congrats, Megan! Keep it rolling!"

Gustafson is playing just 8.9 minutes a game for the Aces this season, but perhaps her performance in Paris can be a catalyst for her already interesting career. Until play resumes in the W however, she will continue to have plenty of opportunity to show what she can do, as long as Spain remains in Olympics competition.
