Lisa Leslie Sent Kevin Durant Early Congratulations for Breaking Her USA Olympics Scoring Record

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Women's basketball legend Lisa Leslie is getting it out of the way now. Leslie, who won four gold medals as a part of Team USA, posted a message congratulating Kevin Durant for breaking one of her records. She even did it early. Durant is only six points away from passing Leslie's USA basketball Olympics scoring mark which led to Lisa saying, "Well let me start to congratulate as he gets ready to break one of my Olympic records! The Slim Reaper!! One of my all time favorites!".

It is obviously a foregone conclusion KD will get the total he needs over the remainder of the games in Paris barring something catastrophic, and Durant has excelled on the international stage whenever he has been on the USA roster. However, his upcoming achievement also serves as some nice recognition for Leslie, who was apparently unaware she even held the record in the first place, based on what she wrote on social media.

Leslie's career accolades go well beyond the Olympics of course. She is a two-time WNBA champion and three-time MVP of the league. Not to mention her jersey is retired by both the Los Angeles Sparks and her college of USC. Lisa was also the first ever player to dunk the ball during a game in the W.

So it is nice to see Leslie get some much deserved recognition. Even if it comes as one of her storied accomplishments is about to fall. But Lisa's name will remain all over the record books, just right under Durant when it comes to getting buckets for Team USA.
