Los Angeles Sparks Announce Cameron Brink Tore ACL

The Los Angeles Sparks announced what many around the WNBA had feared, that star rookie Cameron Brink did indeed suffer a serious injury during the game against the Connecticut Sun.

The team officially stated that Brink suffered a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament on the play that saw her fall awkwardly before attempting to walk it off but then eventually needing to be carried back to the locker room.

The Sparks gave no timetable for the injury but ACLs typically take months to recover from so it is a fair assumption that Brink will be out for the remainder of her first season. Her averages through 15 games were 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks, the latter being good enough for third in the league.

Brink received well wishes across the board from Lakers great Magic Johnson to fellow W rookie Angel Reese following the play that occurred mid-way through the first quarter of the contest against the Sun.

The Sparks will miss her defensive prowess and now will rely even more heavily on fellow first-year player Rickea Jackson who has thrived since moving into a starting role. In addition to Dearica Hamby who has had one of the strongest seasons of anyone currently ranking in the top ten in points and rebounds.

Brink had been selected to the Team USA 3x3 basketball squad for the Olympics in Paris but it now seems like a foregone conclusion they will have to name a replacement with an announcement on that as well as the latest on Brink's recovery sure to come soon.
