Minnesota Lynx Demand Discussion After Commissioner's Cup Win

Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Lynx were stellar in dispatching of the New York Liberty to win the WNBA Commissioner's Cup. And afterwards Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve wanted to ensure the achievement was not ignored.

Reeve stated plainly that the squad can no longer be slept on. That as she referred to star player Napheesa Collier as "MV-Phee".

“You got to talk about us now, you’ve got no choice. We just beat a superteam; you know how hard that is to do?”

Collier has been awesome in putting up 20.9 points and 10.5 rebounds thus far this season. While the Lynx as a whole displayed a level of team intensity and tenacity that the Liberty were unable to handle. Of course New York's home court was a little different due to the NBA Draft, something Breanna Stewart had previously expressed displeasure about.

Regardless, the Lynx certainly put the league on notice and are sure to top any updated WNBA power rankings. They also caught the attention of a specific fan in Paige Bueckers, as the UConn standout was in the stands to take in the Cup final. Bueckers of course is a Minnesota native.

The Lynx will also get some dollars along with the desired discussion. The winners of the Commissioner's Cup are awarded $500,000, meaning each player on Minnesota will get around $41,000. Collier will collect an additional $5,000 for winning MVP. So this particular victory during the team's seven-game winning streak is sure to be extra sweet. And hopefully talked about.
