NBA Player Lamented 'Disrespectful' Media Coverage of USA Women's Olympics Basketball Team

The US Women's National Basketball Team has now won 60 games in a row during Olympics competition and is poised to win an eighth-consecutive gold medal. But if one NBA player's word is enough to go off, not enough people know the above fact. Or at least it isn't receiving the coverage it should, that according to Charlotte Hornets forward Grant Williams, who has been covering the games in Paris. Williams dubbed the lack of attention the women have received compared to the men as "disrespectful" in a social media post.

Williams wrote, "If we really want to move the W game forward it’s not just up to fans it’s also the coverage they receive. Being behind the scenes here at Olympics the difference between men’s vs women’s postgame is disrespectful and the women deserve better. Internationally and domestically!"

How much coverage each team has received is difficult to quantify, but it of course does seem that the squad featuring the likes of LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant has certainly gotten the majority of it. In fairness, they did play a thrilling down to the wire game against Serbia that required the aforementioned stars to go off, while the women have been cruising during the tournament. And then there is also the Caitlin Clark aspect of the conversation, as her lack of a roster spot has led to much coverage about the lack of coverage it would certainly lead to.

Grant responded to fans bringing that up by pointing to recent attendance numbers for Team USA and making the case that Diana Taurasi's career greatness earned her a spot over Clark. Williams then added that the media is not doing a good enough job promoting Taurasi and why her inclusion was essential.

Regardless, none of the chatter, or lack thereof once the Olympics began has gotten to the women of Team USA, given they are taking care of business without paying the noise any mind. If there is any to hear.
