Sue Bird's Old Take on Sky's Chennedy Carter Goes Viral

WNBA legend Sue Bird saw the potential in Chennedy Carter before some others. An old clip of Bird discussing the 2020 draft class with Diana Taurasi has resurfaced and Bird made her admiration for the Chicago Sky star's game apparent.

Taurasi asked Sue if she had to bet $1 million, which player would she pick to be the best out of that class. Bird responded saying Carter emphatically, before adding that Chennedy would be a problem as long as she had her head on straight.

Carter was the fourth pick in that draft out of Texas A&M and did run into some career road bumps after being taken by the Atlanta Dream. She was eventually suspended for "conduct detrimental to the team" and traded to the Los Angeles Sparks. The Sparks then benched and soon after waived her leading to Chennedy playing the 2023 season in Turkey.

But Carter found a home with the Sky and has thrived since being inserted into the team's starting lineup, putting her scoring prowess on display. The same scoring ability Bird was fearful of in the resurfaced livestream clip. Sue did not want any part of guarding Carter in a previous exhibition game, due to Chennedy's penchant for getting buckets. Bird said, "You couldn't guard her," and of course that was well before she found her current groove in the WNBA.

Carter is averaging 16.5 points for the Sky this season and has been lovingly dubbed the Chen to star rookie Angel Reese's Barbie.
