WNBA Posted Caitlin Clark Highlights to Announce Sabrina Ionescu Player of the Week

The WNBA has handed out its latest Player of the Week honors and some fans were a little taken aback by the winner in the Eastern Conference. Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson won again for the West, which was no surprise, but Sabrina Ionescu of the New York Liberty was the winner in the East over Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark. Which left some scratching their heads. Perhaps the league itself was confused too, as its social media account posted a video of Clark highlights while announcing Sabrina. The post has of course since been deleted.

Ionescu had a tremendous week for the Liberty averaging 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. New York was also 4-0 during that span. But Clark totaled 22 points, 5 rebounds and almost 13 assists, breaking the league record for assists in a game in the process. While generating more points than any player ever has in one contest before. She also reached statistical benchmarks that had previously always been met with a Player of the Week selection.

Clark could still be in line for Player of the Month honors given she has been rapidly racking up on court achievements and records. She is essentially a lock to take home Rookie of the Year at this point and is working her way up the MVP ranks as well. Still, despite Sabrina being a worthy recipient, the choice has led to some conversation about the league's most popular player being snubbed when it comes to major recognition.

Unfortunately, Ionescu and Clark will not be settling this in the 3-Point contest. But they will be on opposite ends of the floor for the WNBA All-Star Game and should spend plenty of time going head-to-head.
