Kevin Durant Weighs in on Caitlin Clark Olympics Omission

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Durant had this to say about the situation when talking to the Wall Street Journal

“I still think there’s proper steps you have to take in our world to be considered an Olympian. I think she’s definitely going to be on one of these teams going forward, but for right now there’s better candidates out there I think.”

KD isn't the first to express such a sentiment and it is hard to argue with any of the participants who made the squad. At the same time there is no denying the attention Clark could have brought to the team and sport and her numbers are certainly worthy of selection as well. There is also a precedent for first-year players making the roster, including current members Diana Taurasi and Breanna Stewart.

No one can accuse Durant of being bitter about Clark however, as the Phoenix Suns star praised the WNBA rookie years ago while she was still at Iowa remarking at her skills on his podcast with Boardroom.

Clark did get a taste of the Olympics to some degree as she and her Indiana Fever teammates attended the trials for USA Swimming and Caitlin even took a chance to dip her hand in the pool.

She stated it was fun to be there and support the athletes and there is almost no doubt fans will be supporting her at a future Olympics with USA Basketball.
