Fans Calling For Sky Coach Teresa Weatherspoon's Firing After Another Loss
The Chicago Sky suffered another defeat on Wednesday night to the now 9-22 Washington Mystics.
The 74-70 loss gives the Sky four consecutive defeats and an 11-19 record on the year. While they were playing without guard Chennedy Carter on Wednesday (who has been their offensive spark plug this season), many fans expected the Sky to emerge victorious over the Mystics.
One bright spot for Chicago was rookie Kamilla Cardoso, who secured a double-double (10 points and 11 rebounds) on just four shots from the field while also adding 5 assists and 3 blocks.
Despite her success, Kardoso didn't play in the game for the majority of the fourth quarter. And many fans on social media are calling for Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon to get fired as a result of this decision.
"Fire Teresa Weatherspoon! Y’all can argue with me all you want but no way you sit the biggest player on the court, and leading scorer for majority of the 4th in a game that we need to win against possibly the worst team in the league. Terrible coaching for the 3rd game in a row!" one X user wrote.
Another said, "this was the last game i needed to see to know that teresa weatherspoon needs to be fired. shes not capable of doing this job."
A third fan wrote, "the @chicagosky should fire Weatherspoon immediately
that was one of the worst finishes in basketball i've ever seen
absolute choke with 2:40 left in the game".
"Gave the game away. Spoon gotta go," a fourth X user said.
While calling for Weatherspoon's firing before her first season as head coach is over might be premature, Sky fans were clearly expecting more from their team this season after scoring big during the 2024 WNBA Draft.
Chicago now has just a half-game advantage over the Atlanta Dream for the eighth and final seed for the WNBA playoffs with 11 regular season games left to play.
