Fever All-Stars Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell Deserve Flowers
The Indiana Fever's three WNBA All-Stars fielded the post game questions as a trio following the team's win over the Minnesota Lynx. It was a fitting sight because all three had a heavy hand in the victory. Which has been a consistent pattern. Caitlin Clark may get the bulk of the attention and her teammates might have gotten some more votes due to her popularity, but both Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell have been bona fide stars in this recent stretch for Indiana and deserve recognition.
Boston started the season slow but she has been brilliant of late. Last year's number one pick and Rookie of the Year also happens to have developed a unique chemistry with Clark on the court, and seemingly off it as well. AB and CC in ball screen action is almost its own offense and Aliyah is shooting nearly 60% off of Caitlin's feeds. Boston individually has given the team a presence inside and is nearly averaging a double-double in points and rebounds. She has also been a defensive anchor and that hasn't stopped her from running the floor hard in transition as well.
Mitchell is more simply a bucket. Kelsey actually leads the Fever in scoring and it is easy to see why. She is able to create for herself off the bounce in a way few players can and also happens to be shooting well from beyond the arc. Mitchell is an excellent complement to Clark in the backcourt as between the two there is almost nothing the pair can't do. The two have formed the best clutch duo in the W. Mitchell has made some big defensive plays as well, including one late against the Lynx.
Indiana does not have the third best record in the WNBA over the last month for no reason. Having three legit All-Stars has made the game much easier for the entire squad. So while Clark justifiably is receiving the bulk of the attention, the contributions of Boston and Mitchell should not be overlooked. Caitlin is certainly always looking for them on the floor.
