KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — A World Cup qualifying match between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia was suspended in the 88th minute Tuesday after fans threw flares and fireworks onto the field.
With the visiting team leading 2-1 when the trouble began at the Shah Alam Stadium, Saudi Arabia coach Bert van Marwijk led his players off the field.
The Group A match was officially suspended a short time later.
Saudi Arabia entered the match perfect through two games in qualifying, while Malaysia was winless with one point and a -16 goal differential through three games leading into Tuesday's encounter.
