NASCAR's Worst Moments of 2007
The tone for Michael Waltrip's 2007 season was set early when the team got caught with an illegal additive in its fuel tank at the Daytona 500. Things seemed to go down hill from there.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. announced in May that he was leaving Dale Earnhardt Inc., the team that his father created. The departure showed just how poor the relationship is between Dale Jr. and his stepmother, Teresa Earnhardt.
Kurt Busch was the only that enjoyed the August race at Pocono. He dominated what was one of the most boring races in recent NASCAR history, leading 175 of 200 laps and building a lead of more than seven seconds at one point.
Juan Montoya and Kevin Harvick showed their road rage after on-track incidents at Watkins Glen International. Montoya, bumped by another car, knocked Harvick out of the race. The two drivers had an angry exchange and actually grabbed each other before they were separated by officials.
Bobby Ginn sells his team to Dale Earnhardt Inc., ending a meteoric streak that saw the team owner go from the top to out of the sport.
Kurt and Kyle started a family feud when they wrecked each other in the All-Star Challenge.
At Martinsville, an irate Carl Edwards pushed Matt Kenseth during a live television interview, and then faked a punch at his Roush Fenway Racing teammate. The two had tussled twice on the track.
The finish at Kansas Speedway was one of the lamest endings in NASCAR history, thanks to rain delays and impending darkness. NASCAR had already announced that the event was being cut short when a caution came out, effectively ending the race with Greg Biffle leading. Biffle was credited with the win, but not before he ran out of gas and was passed by two drivers before crossing the finish line.
After Denny Hamlin wrecked Kyle Petty at Dover, the two had a confrontation in the garage area. Hamlin was sitting in his car as his crew tried to get his car back on the track when Petty came and slapped the visor down on Hamlin's helmet.
Kurt Busch and Tony Stewart tangled several times during 2007, but got carried away at Dover. After crashing each other during the race, Stewart banged into Busch as they were getting off the track. Then Busch tries to crash into Stewart on pit road, nearly running over a crew member in the process.
