Newly-acquired Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul was able to open his career with his new team by playing against the team that thought they had traded for him, and a record number of people watched it happen, according to the Associated Press. The Clippers' preseason opener against the crosstown Lakers drew a reported 509,000 viewers, breaking the record set by the Miami Heat superteam in October of last year.
The trade of Paul to the Clippers followed a near-trade of Paul to the Lakers, which was overturned by NBA commissioner David Stern. Paul finished the exhibition with 17 points and 9 assists.
