The Minnesota Twins have placed catcher Joe Mauer on trade waivers, reports FOX Sports reporter Ken Rosenthal.

Even if Mauer is claimed, it seems highly unlikely the Twins would trade him. But the 29-year-old catcher has $142 million left on his contract and, given his injury history, Minnesota could consider trading the face of the franchise if a team offers the right mix of young pitching.

Mauer has a full no-trade clause, so he would have to approve any potential deal. It's unknown whether the Minnesota native would do so. But the Twins have the worst record in the American League, and he could be concerned the team will struggle for the near future.
