Multiple sources told 247Sports.com (subscription link) that Auburn president Jay Gogue has informed some members of the university's Board of Trustrees he is preparing to possibly fire football coach Gene Chizik.
The reports says Gogue is preparing to form a committee to oversee the possible removal of Chizik and to help find and hire his successor "within days after the end of the season should the decision be made that Chizik will not be retained.”
The website reports that Louisville offensive coordinator Shawn Watson has been mentioned as a possible candidate.
Gogue reportedly also told some board members that he plans to retain athletics director Jay Jacobs, but reassign executive associate athletics director Tim Jackson, who oversees football.
