Former Chicago Cubs player Sammy Sosa has purchased the distribution rights to a needle-free injection company, Injex21.

According to the company press release that he posted to his Facebook page on Tuesday morning, he was introduced to the business venture in mid-2012 and saw the potential to help people overcome their difficulties with taking injections. Sosa, who wore number 21 for the Cubs, said Injex21 will aid professionals in the medical field as well as millions of diabetics:

"I can see many uses for dentists, pediatricians, diabetics – people all over the world."

He was drawn to the company after seeing an opportunity to help all kinds of people, from those "afraid of needles to those who have to subject themselves to daily self-injections and to medical workers who are at risk for puncture wounds," according to the press release.

A marketing manager for Injex21 said the company will not be making any more comments at this time, according to a report from Rob Manker of The Chicago Tribune.

News of his teaming up with a needle-free injection company comes at a rather odd time for Sosa. On Jan. 9, he was denied entry into baseball's Hall of Fame amid allegations that he used performance enhancing drugs throughout his baseball career, as reported by The New York Times in June 2009.  In 2005, he sat before Congress at a hearing with former Major League Baseball players Rafael Palmeiro, Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire, stating via his attorney that he never took PEDs and never injected himself:

"To be clear, I have never taken illegal performance-enhancing drugs. I have never injected myself or had anyone inject me with anything. I have not broken the laws of the United States or the laws of the Dominican Republic. I have been tested as recently as 2004, and I am clean."
