The Tampa Bay Rays have placed Desmond Jennings on the 15-day disabled list after the outfielder fractured his left middle finger Saturday while sliding into second base.
Jennings has started 102 games in center field for the Rays, who have won 21 of their last 26 and are a half-game behind the Boston Red Sox in the American League East. He has a .258 batting average with 24 doubles and 17 stolen bases. Sam Fuld is the likely candidate to take Jennings' place in center. There is no timetable for his return.
In his last 10 games, Jennings hit .167 (7-for-42) and struck out 16 times.
